Fun, fitness, swimming;

Fun and fitness swimming will not as stringent as the hydrotherapy. Your dog is swimming for fun and fitness. We will require the same forms and signatures on the terms and conditions and the vets’ health check.

But the swimming will be more relaxed Darryl will still carry out a health check on your dog/s. your dog/s may not need a buoyancy jacket. You can swim more than one dog if you have a pack.

First Appointment for hydrotherapy

Darryl will talk about your dog’s condition and the prognoses from the Veterinary Surgeons. If your dog/s has experienced any of these conditions: congestive heart failure, enlarged heart, epilepsy, diabetes, bleeding (external and internal), asthma, chemotherapy, please advise us.

Darryl will carry out a health check before your dog can enter the water to ensure well-being. We will introduce a buoyancy jacket (life jacket) once your dog is happy with this they will be helped into the warm water. The first swim could be restricted to as little as one minute this will differ from dog to dog dependant on condition. There may be a possible rest period and second short swim. Your dog will take the correct swimming position with the help of Darryl. The treatment will be paced with your dog’s natural ability and comfort level. In most cases, dogs will have had little exercise due to the condition and muscle groups utilised during swimming may not have been used for years.

After the swimming session your dog will be showered and dried. Please do not feed your dog for approximately one hour after swimming.

Follow-on Appointments

Each visit the swimming time could be increased as your dog improves. After the second swim your dog will be profoundly relaxed and muscles will be exercised. We will be frequently assessing how your dog is coping with the exercise. Some days your dog may have more energy and other days tire more quickly.

Pauline and Darryl hope to make life more relaxing for your dogs and make good friendships on the way.
